Using iPSP with Video Files

iPSP makes it easy to play Video on your PSP in a few simple steps. As video conversion isn't as fast as music and picture conversion, and video can come from many different sources, iPSP uses a queue so that you can set up many conversions and let them run in the background.

iPSP can convert many different kinds of files:

MPEG files - .mpg extension
Video for Windows files - .avi extension
QuickTime Files - .mov extension
Windows Media files - .wmv extension
DVD Video Object files - .vob extension
Digital Video files - .dv extension

Please note that while iPSP supports all of the above file formats, some of these files may 'codecs' internally that aren't supported. See the Troubleshooting section in iPSP Help for specific information if a file you try to convert doesn't work.

Creating a Conversion Queue

Before you can convert your files, then need to be in the iPSP queue. To make a queue, choose Encode Video for PSP... from the iPSP Status Menu item:

This will open a Standard Open Dialog. Choose the video file you want and press the Open button

When a video file is selected and opened, you will be presented with a Video Settings window:

For each video you choose, you can change the conversion options, which are breifly explained below:

Video Source

Memory stick Size

Quality

Bitrate(optional)

By default, iPSP targets video at 400kbits per second. Changing this setting (min. 250, Max. 500) can effect the size and quality of your video by using less data as an average for encoding your video.
